hot spots in a cool place
2025

newspaper, performance, 30’
Postcard picture point, hot off the press. Double-sided. How beautiful we have it here. Chirping alpine meadows masked by the hum of server racks and digital beeps, some cooling fan winds caress your cheeks. Late at night: up and down, up and down, guard the hollow — a simple exercise in patience. A nation puts its faith in the mountains.

2023

video, 11’

This work takes findlings and sightings from high altitudes, dispersed like military missiles, and found in the crevices of alpine rock formations and turns them into a fragmentary collection of traces.

clouds nest like cysts on the soft tissues of their hosting milieu
2022

multimedia-installation with performance, soundpiece, animated videos (7‘, 3.5‘, 3.5‘) and sculptural elements in silicone, fabric and plexiglas.
Your mine-eyes mirror a milieu: a dark site on remote control. A blob of ether, a cloud of confusion, yellow dust sets onto a murky swamp. The granular, hissing, forms a riverbed to flush out data mines’ pixel. Hot spots in a cool place: the datasphere is alive with corporate chunks of imperial extraction. “Dig that bit there, coin!” And in that necrotic foggy zero-energy state, you and I have never been so close.

bergamot leather scent
2022

text, performance
The work starts with leather chaps that I’ve found in a vintage store in Brussels. They evoked memories of my grandfather, a blacksmith, and imaginative memories of my grandmother, which I’ve never met, but from whom I’ve inherited my red hair.

tears to your ears (you do not have)
2022

5-channel videoinstallation with smartphones (each around 2‘), beeswax
A text in five chapters shown on five smartphones that are held by beeswax fingers. The text speaks of the intimacy between device and user, the materiality of the digital and the network, that is, with its zoomed-in, up-close videos, a glitchy pixel performance.

How close can I come before your skin starts burning?
2021

performance, video, 13’
The work takes a found, porous object as a starting point for a poetic-materialistic examination of a disrupted environment. Seemingly solid objects burst at the slightest touch in their porousness into the smallest pieces, constantly changing their state of aggregation, always transforming.

Ocean Currents
2020

installation, textile print, 3-channel-video, 15’
The work takes the ocean as an example to think about changing ecologies, more-than-human coexistence, and past and future modes of aging. It follows three different protagonists: an exhausted, bleached out coral, some singing sirens and an oyster.

Much analysis is about how to freeze the present: A granular idea
2019

aluminium, cement, publication, sandbags, steel, video, 52’
No above, just endless surface and what lies underneath: From zero it‘s only possible to go further into the negative. Changing into ground view; underneath the rollsurface; the volumes are hidden in the sub-surface. The work looks top down, in direction of conservation and recording moments of the present, at the global ups and downs of landmasses and the idea of the granular.

Isabelle Weber's work spans video, CGI and 3D animation, installation, sculpture, performance and text. She is currently working on various projects, including a video installation about the Bread from Twann with Alexandra Baumgartner. One of her current projects, ‘Die Alpen sind hohl’ takes the Réduit national as the starting point for a feminist, anti-nationalist and postcolonial examination of the Swiss ideological belief in the mountains.
She works as a freelance artist and is active with the collectives basic mechanics and office in Brussels.

Die Alpen sind hohl
2023-ongoing

research, performance, sculpture, film/video

The Alps are hollow, in their cavities echoes a rotting ideology. At the heart of this project is the question of the Swiss belief in the mountains: as it upholds both a physical and mental barrier, the construction of national identity and fictitious common origin, and of a flourishing economy.
